You wake up and stumble into the bathroom for your morning shower. Once the water gets to the perfect temperature, you step in to find that you have insufficient water pressure! That’s not a great way to start your day for sure, but there are several ways to alleviate the problem. Some fixes will require a professional but there are others that any homeowner can do.
Here are some remedies you can tackle on your own:
Clean your shower head-Sometimes the low pressure can be caused by clogs inside the showerhead. To clean it, take the showerhead down and look for debris. Most showerheads have a filter between the pipe and the head, so pull it out and take a look. If there is a visible mineral build-up on the shower head, fill a bowl with enough vinegar to completely immerse the shower head and leave it to soak overnight.
Replace the showerhead. Replacing your showerhead is a simple matter and replacement heads come in a wide variety of styles and prices. Your new showerhead may have a flow restrictor built into it. You can increase the water pressure by removing the flow restrictor before you install the showerhead.
Check for kinks-If your showerhead head is on a hose, make sure that there are no kinks in the hose.
Main water valve-Check the main valves leading into your home and any other valves between the main valve and the shower. If they’re not fully opened, that could be causing the problem.
Shower at off hours-If a large number of people in your area are using their showers in the morning, try taking a shower at night. You might realize a significant difference.
Check your appliances-Don’t run your dishwasher or washing machine while you’re showering. Also, make there isn’t anyone else in the house using the other showers at the same time.
